Nayarit is located in the western part of Mexico, bordered to the north by the state of Sinaloa, to the east by Durango and Zacatecas, to the south by Jalisco, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean.

The climate in the state varies from tropical along the coast to temperate in the highlands. The coastal area typically experiences warm temperatures year-round, with a rainy season from June to October. Inland and higher elevation areas have cooler climates, particularly during the winter months.
